Why is it that humanity has lost the ability or desire to reason? We seem to have thrown common sense out the window or, worse yet, into the deepest abyss. We want our answers packaged. We want to be told what to think regardless of how we may have fooled ourselves into believing we are independent thinkers. I won't be prejudiced here. It is not just a left-leaning phenomenon or a right-leaning characteristic. Both sides will accept the same watered down drivel if it's presented in the language of their particular bent.
We want so desperately to know with certainty that what we think is right that we refuse to see any other side but our own. This fatal flaw makes us easy targets for politicians, marketers, the media, and any other entity desiring to shape society in its own images. Somewhere in the midst of the bombardment of information lies the truth. I'm not talking about relative truth (which technically isn't really truth any way) or situational truth. I am talking about absolute truth with a capital T. It makes no difference how you shape it, twist it, or spin it...there is an inescapable, immovable, incontestable, absolute truth. I can believe all that I want that indestructability is true for me, but the moment I step in front of a freight train, the inescapable, absolute truth of my feeble mortality becomes blatantly apparent. I saw this lack of common sense displayed in a way that caused me to chuckle out loud. Standing in line at Wal-Mart, where many observations of man's lack of common sense are paraded daily, the consumer in front of me placed upon the belt, three cartons of cigarettes and a mega bottle of Ginseng. With an aside to the cashier, the consumer declared, "Gotta stay healthy."
...A destructive lifestyle I'll ne'er admit,
I'll rest my hope on ginseng and cigarettes...
